How to convert integer to float in R?

This recipe helps you convert integer to float in R

Recipe Objective

How to convert an integer to a float in R? When a data type is converted to another data type, it is known as data type casting. Data type casting is necessary when an output returned is a data type different than what we need to perform any further operations. Data type casting is necessary when an output returned is a data type different than what we need to perform any further operations. There are different types of data types like integer, float, character, etc. Integers are described as whole numbers, whereas float describes a number as a decimal type. This recipe converts an integer value to a float value.

Step 1- Define a integer value

x <- 4

Step 2- Convert integer to float

sprintf() function returns a formatted character value of the given input value.

a <- sprintf("%1.3f",x) # converts the numeric value to character type print(a)

noquote() function removes the quotes from a character value.

b <- noquote(sprintf("%1.3f",x)) # converts character type to float type print(b)

"Output of the code is": 4.000
