Here’s what data science tells us about Hillary Clinton’s emails.Washingtonpost.com, November 2, 2016.
Several experiments were conducted by social scientists and data scientists at History Lab of Columbia University to identify patterns and uniqueness in official secrecy in large collections of declassified documents using machine learning algorithms. The main goal was to find out to what extent a document classified as confidential or secret has historically been random or predictable and learn what is normal and what might be considered negligent in how officials like Hillary Clinton manage large numbers of potentially sensitive communications.
Growth of data scientists beats growth of software professionals.NewIndianExpress.com, November 3, 2016.
Data Science industry is growing 6 to 8 times faster than the overall IT industry. India alone will witness a shortage of approximately 200,000 data scientists in 2018. Entry level data scientists in India earn approximately 520,000 per year whilst an entry level software engineer earns a salary of 280,000. With shortage of analytics talent in India and increasing demand for data science professionals, this is the best time to hone the skills and become a data scientist.

HOW DATA-SCIENCE ROCKED THE US ELECTIONS. TheDailyStar.net, November 14,2016.
Election data science is still a novice thing but is extensively being used in elections to stay ahead from the competitors and so was the scenario with US elections. Pollsters gather historical data through social media, citizen surveys, telephone calls and also from third parties. This big data is fed into the machines which understand the overall factors and provide insights and patterns on who is likely to win.For the US 2016 Presidential elections, data scientists crunched this data based on media coverage, public opinion, scoops and scandals. Data science predicted that Clinton’s probability of winning the elections was between 75-90% but the results led to disappointment and shock. Data scientists are pointing towards insufficient data on US elections as the major cause for misleading predictions.

UC Berkeley should expand data science education.DailyCal.org, November 15,2016.
Considering the growing demand for data scientists and the shortage of talent in both academia and industry, it comes to us as no surprise that the waiting list for introductory computer science and statistics courses is growing to hundreds at UC Berkeley.Increasing the size of the data science classes might not be a perfect move but expanding the data science education over different domains might be helpful as data science is interdisciplinary in nature.
