Hackerday is a platform, where like minded professionals come together and work on day long hackathons in Big Data and Data Science, to update their skills. Professionals, who already know big data concepts like Hadoop and Spark or data science programming languages like Python and R - are invited to participate in these online hackathon sessions. These hackathon sessions are not for learning a new concept, rather it is for understanding the practical application of the concepts already learnt. A mentor from the industry conducts each of these hackathons, mainly to clarify doubts that may come up during the coding sessions.
In these hackathons, a project is selected, and the problem statement is outlined. Along with that, the industry mentor also outlines what tool, concept or programming library will be used to tackle the problem in hand. This is done, so that the participants are aware of which tools they will practice on, in this particular project.
The job market is becoming highly competitive and technology is changing fast to adapt to the needs of the business. 10 years ago, no one could have predicted that a technology like Hadoop will be able to wipe out a secure career in Mainframes. But this is happening, it is real. What is more shocking is that Spark is now taking over most of the Hadoop tasks. No one can say for sure that Spark will replace Hadoop, but people are not taking any chances. They are becoming proficient in Spark as well.
This is what we hope to achieve in these hackathons. Hackerday projects are designed by industry professionals. These projects help you understand the technologies and tools that is extensively being used in the industry in the present and what will be expected of these technologies in the near future. The purpose of these hackathons is to keep you updated with the recent changes, version, etc of the technologies that you have mastered.
Hackerday is a great platform for Data Scientists to develop skills in multiple tools. A data scientist has to be a unicorn, or someone who possesses a multitude of skills. This is not possible to accomplish in 4 years of college or a 60 - hour long course on Data Science. These hackathons will ensure that each project is unique in the way of using multiple concepts. This way, someone, who is already a data scientist can learn and work on a different set of skills.
We use GoToWebinar to conduct the hackathons. You will get 3 emails from us. One will be sent a week before to inform you of your projects, the problem statements and the dates on which the hackathons for these projects will be held. The second one will be an invitation to join the session on that date. We will also send you a reminder mail to join the session a day before the project is about to begin. You will be able to see the faculty and his screen and interact with him to clear your doubts during the session.
We work with the best industry professionals who are Hadoop Architects, Hadoop Developers, Big Data Engineers and Data Scientists to lead you in the hackathons.
You learn a new technology to boost your career, get a new job in this field or to even grow your business. But we can all agree that theoretical knowledge is not going to help much in the professional field. Whether you are going to apply for a position as a Data Engineer or a Data Scientist, you will need to show your skills to the recruiters. Participating in these hackathons are the best way to define what you can do and learn, relearn and apply the concepts in real time case studies. You can show these projects in GitHub, LinkedIn, and in your public profiles.
These projects are unique in their problem statement, but these projects are built around the easily available datasets online. You will be using different tools, programs and framework to arrive at a business solution outlined in the project statement. In every project we try to make sure that you use the techniques that you learnt and also learn something new.
Yes, you can interact with the faculty by clicking on the questions box in the GoToWebinar panel.
You can simply click on Enroll Now and choose the option you want. For $29 USD, you get to work on 2 projects. For example, if you choose Data Science for $29, then you can join two data science Hackerday sessions. For the combo option of $49 USD, you can join 2+2, 4 Hackerday sessions. 2 each for Data Science and Hadoop.
