in vlookup, how do you lock the formula?

in the 1st part --introduction to MS Excel, in the 10th module, you discussed about vlookup. I want to know how do you lock the formula as discussed.

If you want to lock cell C4, place your cursor inbetween "C" and "4" and press f4. That will lock the cell.


Locking down the values means making the reference fixed irrespective of copy and paste of formula from one cell to another. In the table array, instructor have first pressed F2 and then taken the cursor to the table array range and then pressed F4 to make the reference an absolute reference...... i.e. Data!B2:E202 has become Data!$B$2:$E$202
