The term "Financial Analyst" is broadly used in the banking industry to indicate many roles. An "Equity Research Analyst" is a type of a Financial Analyst whose job is to analyze public companies stocks and write research reports on their future performance.

Other Financial Analysts work in departments such as Investment Banking, Trading, Risk Management, Credit Analysis, Fixed Income Research etc.
