Difference between Dealer and Investment banker

1: dealers got there money blocked in assets but investment bankers usually provide underwriting facility only when the issue is under subscribed only in such cases the investment bankers will have to use there funds to buy the issue and dealers will not provide such facility of underwriting.

2:dealer takes over the trading problem of the client of buying and selling the securities in secondary market whereas investment banking is institution which specializes in helping companies bring issues and raise money from the primary market.

3: dealer specializes in types of markets like T-bills, commercial papers etc and Investment banker are specialized in preparing prospectus or offer document.

4: dealer is always ready to buy and sell securities at any point of time but not the investment banker
