A cell range in an Excel worksheet refers to a group or a block of cells which have been selected or highlighted.

The selected cells generally have a dark or bold outline and hence they can be referred to as active cells.

You use ranges in formulas, you can reference ranges by the first and last cell in the range,separated by a colon.

Example: All the cells from A1 down to A10 are a range.
