I had the same issue with tasktracker.What i realised is when you open the sudo vi mode i didnot see the localhost line.But i still inserted my ifcongif number ahead and thats why my task tracker is giving me issues.Does that show on yours ?

For any reason, if your jobtracker is not working. You can start the jobtracker service using command:

hadoop-daemon.sh start jobtracker

Hope this works.
