Do we need to install hadoop for the class if we have already installed cloudera

No you do not need to intall Hadoop 1 as single node cluster.
What you have installed - CDH4 is sufficient. This comes with Hadoop already installed.
The instructor demoed the complete installation of Hadoop from scratch to give you an idea of what is involved. So incase - you want to setup Hadoop on linux system - you will know the steps involved.
