I tried and able to create DB class8dz1. May be check databaseName path in hive-site.xml
I configured db path same as Karan Sir.
databaseName=/home/cloudera/Desktop/hive-metatadata/.....

The configuration is the same as given. The files were created. But for some reason the communication is failing.

Looks like hive service is not running in your VM. Please login to Cloudera manager in Firefox within the VM, login using cloudera/cloudera. You will be taken to "All Services" page. Here look for Hive and select "Restart" from the drop down. Once the service is started, re-execute the command and verify.
