Recipe Objective - How does the CALCULATE function work in Power BI?

CALCULATE - evaluates an expression in a modified filter context.

Syntax of CALCULATE -

CALCULATE(expression, [filter1 , [filter2 ,[ …]]])

Parameters -

expression - The expression to be evaluated.

filter1, filter2,… - (Optional) Boolean expressions or table expressions that defines filters, or filter modifier functions.

Return the value that is the result of the expression.

Task - Calculate total sales generated by only Technology Category in Superstore dataset.

DAX Query - CALCULATE(SUM([Sales]),Superstore[Category]="Technology")

This query will calculate total sales generated by only Technology Category.

In this way, we can use CALCULATE function in Power BI DAX.
