Recipe Objective: How to use multiple datasets in Power BI?

This recipe will show how to 

  1. use Power BI to connect to multiple datasets - the Employee and Superstore dataset, and

  2. combine multiple Power BI datasets in one report.

Steps Showing Power BI Report Multiple Datasets 

The following steps will show how you can use Power BI to combine two datasets in one report.

Step 1 - Open Power BI report

Step 2 - Enable 'DirectQuery for Power BI datasets and AS' feature in the Power BI report.

To enable, go to File -> Options and Settings -> Options -> Preview features -> Select checkbox for 'DirectQuery for power bi datasets and AS' -> Click Okay.

Step 3 - Power BI Combine Datasets into Single Report

Add Employee and Superstore datasets one by one in the report.

This way, we can use multiple datasets in the Power BI report.
