How to rename a user in Snowflake

This recipe helps you rename a user in Snowflake

Recipe Objective: How to rename a user in Snowflake?

Snowflake is one of the few enterprise-ready cloud data warehouses that brings simplicity without sacrificing features. It automatically scales, both up and down, to get the right balance of performance vs. cost. Snowflake's claim to fame is that it separates computers from storage. This is significant because almost every other database, Redshift included, combines the two, meaning you must size for your largest workload and incur the cost that comes with it. In this scenario, we will learn how to create a user in snowflake and rename the user.

Build Log Analytics Application with Spark Streaming and Kafka

System requirements :

Step 1: Log in to the account

We need to log in to the snowflake account. Go to snowflake.com and then log in by providing your credentials. Follow the steps provided in the link above.

Step 2: Create USER in Snowflake

Here we are going to create a new user or replace an existing user in the system.

Syntax of the statement:

CREATE [ OR REPLACE ] USER [ IF NOT EXISTS ] [ objectProperties ] [ objectParams ] [ sessionParams ]

Example of the statement:

create user test_user password='abc123' default_role = myrole must_change_password = true;

The output of the above statement: As you can see, the above statement is successfully run in the below image.

Step 3: Rename USER in SnowFlake.

Here we are going to rename an existing username in the system.

Syntax of the statement:

ALTER USER [ IF EXISTS ] RENAME TO ;

Example of the statement:

ALTER USER test_user RENAME TO user_test;

The output of the above statement: as you can see, the above statement is successfully run in the below image.

Conclusion

Here we learned to rename a user in Snowflake.
